PCOS
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition of androgen excess. All women have androgen but in women with PCOS the body produces too much androgen. Androgen is a male hormone. PCOS is highly undiagnosed and women present with similar yet different symptoms. To diagnose PCOS, a women must have 2 of the 3:
- • Fewer or irregular menstrual cycles in a year.
- • Blood test and/or Clinical signs of hyperandrogenism (free testosterone or total testosterone test), acne or Hirsutism (excess hair growth).
- • Presence of polycystic ovaries during ultrasound (not all women with PCOS have polycystic ovaries).
